The article I chose that I felt had similarities to the topic at hand is about durational and spectral differences in American English vowels. It is showing and explaining research done to understand the dialect variation within and across regions. Over the years many studies have been done by sociolinguists to find spectral differences in vowel realization across American dialects, much not many studies have been done on regional variation in duration. The study that this article exemplifies is to display how the durational variation correlates with the spectral variation is found across and within regions. throughout the article it is known that across America in the Northern, Western, and Southern regions the vowel durations are spoken differently.
